MALAYSIA, 24th February 2017 - In the wake of the feminist movement that has prominently inspired the fashion realm especially this past decade, L'Officiel Malaysia dedicates the March 2017 issue to women's empowering feats. Fronting the Girl Power's cover is Rila Fukushima, a Japanese ingénue turned badass starlet as she morphed into mutant assassin following her Hollywood debut in 2013 blockbuster The Wolverine.
"Getting drenched in seawater wearing the thin and light Spring/Summer 2017 clothes, standing at the edge of a high cliff, posing on slippery rocks with super strong waves, climbing up the highest pole she had ever attempted in her life – Rila did them all at below 0°C during winter without complaint.
"At the eighth shot, as the sky started turning dark, we heard a sharp scream. Rila had fallen into the sea while trying to hop from one wet rock to another. When we got to her, she was shivering underneath a Fendi dress. She cut her palm but it didn’t bleed much because of the cold weather. We immediately called off the shoot and rushed her to the hospital. Three hours and four X-rays later, Rila was discharged and we left the hospital at 12am,” says managing editor Monica Mong.
"I think we have gotten just the girl to front our Girl Power issue - and I would love to dedicate this issue to Rila Fukushima," she adds.
Aside from our cover story on the fearless actress, we also present you with our picks of the best female designers working today in A Woman's World, the empresses behind renowned beauty brands in Fiercely Feminine, as well as our rundown of female-friendly male watches in Masters of Two Worlds. Not forgetting the local movers and shakers, we gather Malaysia's finest style stars in X Factor and rising F&B moguls in #GirlBoss.
"It is the time of the year where all fashion lovers dash to the bookstores and clean up the wardrobes for the best of Spring/Summer seasons and what better way to celebrate the new arrivals than with an issue that is devoted to women, devoted to the readers themselves? I say expect nothing short of amazing from the L’Officiel Malaysia team," says CEO and publisher of Heart Media, Olivier Burlot.
