SINGAPORE, 11 July 2016 — The eleventh issue of ART REPUBLIK brings to the ring a hot line-up of artists that fiercely challenge the summer heat.
“ART REPUBLIK’s ‘Summer Slam’ issue comprises a great line-up of artists of various disciplines that are each masters in their own domains,” says Marc Wong, Managing Editor of ART REPUBLIK. “When it comes to fashion and art, Japanese label Undercover’s Jun Takahashi raises the bar to widely respectable heights; Belgian artist Michaël Borremans is a painter whose works are so unsettling you can’t help but be wholly consumed by them; video maestro Ho Tzu Nyen is the first Singapore artist to make it to the Unlimited section of Art Basel, Basel, with his video installation, ‘The Nameless’; Singapore filmmaker Boo Junfeng speaks out about twice making it to Cannes with his second feature film, ‘Apprentice’; the performances of Sri Astari Rasjid have left craters in the Indonesian art scene for generations to come; Indonesian sculpture Wiyoga Muhardanto tells it like it is in his candidly honest works; and lastly, we take a second look the sublime yet subtle photographs of post-2001 Erwin Olaf.”
This quarter also turns the spotlight towards Indonesia with two important announcements. First, we have the inception of Art Stage Jakarta. Taking place from 5 to 7 August 2016, the inaugural edition of Art Stage Jakarta 2016 will focus on art from Indonesian, and is poised to reinforce Art Stage Singapore’s success and recognition as Southeast Asia’s international flagship contemporary art fair. Second, ART REPUBLIK is expanding with a new edition. “I would like to officially announce that ART REPUBLIK is spreading its wings with the launch of an Indonesian edition this August 2016,” adds Marc Wong. Printed in Bahasa Indonesia, ART REPUBLIK Indonesia aims to highlight the booming art scene in Indonesia with around 200 pages of vivid art content, with MPGMedia publishing biannually under the license from Heart Media.
Mr. Olivier Burlot, CEO & Publisher at Heart Media, comments: "The team at ART REPUBLIK remains resolute in our mission to promote the rapidly developing art scene around Asia. Issue 6 of ART REPUBLIK continues to demonstrate just that, featuring the largest number of art galleries in a single issue to date. In the coming months, readers can expect to be able to look to ART REPUBLIK for the latest highlights from all the major fairs in the region, including ART JAKARTA, and the spring edition of the Affordable Art Fair in Singapore which will see the debut AAFter Glow Evening hosted by ART REPUBLIK. ”
