31 March 2017 – The link between fashion and art is inextricable. From Tom Sachs and his Chanel-branded range of weaponry to Elmgreen & Dragset’s site-specific Prada Marfa sculpture in the desert, artists have always turned to fashion as a source of inspiration and social commentary. This connection is anything but one-sided, and fashion has a history of borrowing from art just the same.
In this issue, we take you through a tour of Spring/Summer 2017’s most artful pieces, selected according to some of history’s most notable art movements; show you how form sublimates function in a juxtaposition of contemporary accessories and furniture; and take you behind the closed doors of Dior’s atelier to witness the detailed magic of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fantastical creations. Our fashion spreads by Stefano Moro Van Wick, Chuck Reyes and Marcus Schäfer are a virtual gallery of that confluence between fashion and art, taking you beyond the superficiality of clothing into the realm that blends body, garment and space.
Taking the lead in Bijoux are extraordinary gemstones and exquisite parures as well as timepieces that turn to the woods for artistic inspiration. In Beauty, the whisper of lush reefs and shimmering scales give glowing skin and coral highlights a surreal twist. We also get graphic with the season’s spiciest shade of scarlet.
A new series entitled Lunch with L’Off kicks off in this issue. The concept: L’Off Squad meets high fashion meets fine food. In this issue, we host Rosalyn Lee and Tan Min-Li – dressed in Spring/Summer 2017 for lunch at Jaan to savour its new Spring menu. We also catch Maria Elena Rudolf, Vice President of Art Stage Singapore, and her daughter Coco amid the thought-provoking offerings at the contemporary art fair’s seventh instalment, where they let us in on artful family values.
“The team is stoked and raring to take L’Officiel Singapore to the next level. We’re encouraged by the support we witnessed at our hyper successful Rated X 10th anniversary party in March – we recap the excitement in this April issue and bring you back to the scene in multimedia reports on our new website,” says Grace Tay, Managing Editor. “Next month will mark another milestone for us: Our 100th issue. You can bet that we’ll keep bringing you reads that provoke thought and conversation, an edit of the fashion plethora that institutes the essence of true style, and insider access to the greatest minds that influence and impact the worlds of fashion, beauty, horology and joaillerie. Art, travel, history, culture and people intermingle and inspire fashion – and life. Enjoy our curation in our April issue.”
